Job Description

Job Purpose :

The Kitchen R&D Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and improving processes in the Research & Development (R&D), Kitchen, and Ripening departments. This role ensures that product development, process efficiency, and compliance standards are met across locations. The supervisor collaborates with cross-functional teams to introduce new products, develop cost-saving strategies, and maintain high standards of quality and efficiency.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities : General R&D Responsibilities :

  • Oversee product development, ensuring new recipes and processes meet customer and operational requirements.
  • Collaborate with product development teams on new product timelines, costs, and implementation.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Forecast and track costs, including material usage, labor, and overhead, while developing strategies for cost optimization.
  • Evaluate operational effectiveness and compliance at all locations, proposing improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure adherence to safety, quality, and GMP standards.

Kitchen Operations :

  • Lead the evaluation and improvement of kitchen operations across all facilities.
  • Develop and oversee training programs for staff to ensure consistency and compliance with company standards.
  • Monitor inventory management for kitchen supplies and raw materials to ensure accuracy and accountability.
  • Support the introduction of new kitchen equipment and techniques to improve processes.

Ripening Department :

  • Oversee operations in the Ripening department, ensuring efficiency and consistency across all locations.
  • Develop organic system plans for ripening processes and ensure continuity.
  • Manage inventory accuracy and process development to support growth.

Cross-Functional Collaboration :

  • Work with purchasing and operations teams to improve vendor-related processes.
  • Coordinate with quality and safety teams to maintain high standards across all R&D and kitchen operations.

Other Responsibilities :

  • Travel as needed to visit facilities, vendors, and attend training or operational reviews.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements : Education and Experience :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Culinary Arts, or a related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in food manufacturing, R&D, or kitchen management roles.
  • Experience with food packaging, safety standards, and quality assurance processes.
  • Understanding of accounting principles, material planning, and operational cost forecasting.
  • Familiarity with produce, perishable items, and organic certification standards.

Skills and Knowledge :

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to interact effectively with all management levels.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, with advanced knowledge of Excel.
  • Experience with WMS systems; SAP preferred.
  • Ability to develop and lead training programs for kitchen and R&D staff.

Physical Demands :

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Comfortable sitting at a computer for extended periods.

Work Environment :

  • Work in a dynamic food processing and distribution environment, with varying temperatures.
  • Occasionally visit production facilities for operational reviews and improvements.
